Head of Business Development, GroupMe

Steve Cheney is currently Head of Business Development at GroupMe, where he manages mobile and brand partnerships across media, television, music, sports and local.

Steve spent the early part of his career at Integrated Device Technology in the Silicon Valley, where he ran business development and marketing for mobile, consumer and networking products targeted at OEMs worldwide including Apple, Google, and Cisco.  Steve has also worked in various finance, VC, and educational roles at companies such as Morgan Stanley, Investor Growth Capital, and Kaplan. During college he built and sold custom productivity software for small businesses, and co-founded a ten-person construction firm which served thousands of clients.

Steve is also a mentor for TechStars and a staff contributor at TechCrunch, and his writings have appeared in national publications such as CNN and The Wall Street Journal. He studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara and has an MBA from Columbia University.
